HARRY POTTER PJ'S! - Carolyn Pyjamas by Closet Case Patterns

Julia Bobbin - Harry Potter PJ'sJulia Bobbin - Harry Potter PJ's

Nothing says 'fashion' like a pair of home-made pyjamas. amiright.

BUT these ones are comfy, easy to make and cute as hell in a Harry Potter(!) print, so they're basically my uniform now.

The Pattern

The Carolyn pyjamas are a wonderful, detailed pattern from Closet Case Patterns that features a shirt with two sleeve length options and bottoms that can be either pants or shorts.

I chose to make just the pants of this pattern as I rarely wear a whole pyjama set.

The Fabric

The cutest 'Harry Potter' printed cotton in a quilting cotton. I purchased this from Spotlight in one of those 'I-don't-need-this-at-all-but-I-want-it' moments. It wasn't too long after that I realised they'd be perfect for a pair of PJ bottoms.

The Details

I made the pants which are a straight-leg cut and have the option of a cuff at the hem, which I chose to omit.

It comes with an elasticised waistband, pockets and a faux fly front.

This quilting fabric is pretty stiff, and so I ended up letting out the side seams by about a centimetre to make them more comfortable.

I didn't make a toile first, because I figured they'd be loungewear and a little loose so it wasn't so important. The pattern sewed up a dream and the pattern instructions were well thought out and explained, as everything is from Closet Case Patterns.

In hindsight, I SHOULD HAVE done a 'full-butt-adjustment' or gone up a size, as the back centre waistband dipped down into a 'V' shape in the way that pants do when you've got a little extra 'stuffing' in there. But they are still comfy and I love them!

Final Thoughts

It's actually sort of embarrassing just how often I've worn these pants, and not always at bed time; they are just so comfortable!

I was pleasantly surprised in the fit of this pattern, as I assumed they'd be boxy and unflattering; they're meant for sleeping in after all.
I'm happy to say I was wrong! I mean, it's a Closet Case Pattern so I should have known better :)

Nettie Bodysuit by Closet Case Patterns

'Nettie' by Closet Case Patterns made my Julia Bobbin

I'm not going to lie, I almost called this post Nettie Spaghetti. This top has nothing to do with pasta but I'm partial to a rhyming post title.

Though one thing spaghetti and the Nettie both have in common is that they are both simple and delicious. How's that for a segue? You're welcome.

The Pattern
A zillion years ago the incredibly talented and total MINX Heather Lou from Closet Case Files emailed me to see if I would be interested in testing her new pattern the Nettie bodysuit.

Recently I had found myself wishing for the perfect bodysuit that didn't make me look like I was sporting four bum cheeks. I had literally purchased two bodysuits the day before her email where I was forced once again to cut ugly slits in the bottoms. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the new sewing pattern. Clearly Heather Lou is a wizard (and possibly a mind reader).

Fabric
The garment requires a four way stretch/knit fabric for movement and a nice close fit. I made my Nettie with Ponte which is only a two way stretch and quite thick. It's not the ideal fabric for this top and you don't get that really fitted second-skin look, but I still love how it turned out.

What I love
Firstly, there are two different neck versions depending on how much boobage you want to show. Then there are three different variations at the back from high to low. On top of that you also have the option to make this bad boy into a dress. So many possibilities. I made mine with the scoop neck and the medium scoop back.

The real genius of this design comes in the low cut bottom for extra comfort and the elimination of the dreaded pantyline. I can't tell you what a difference this makes! How has no one thought of this before?

The bodysuit also comes with a bust-shelf option for those wanting to go bra-less.

Oh and it takes only a few hours to put together! Emotional!
